Brief History about my loving province

Bataan was established in 1754 by Governor General Pedro Manuel Arandia out of territories belonging to Pampanga and the corregimiento of Marivels which, at the time, included Maragondon in Cavite across the bay. Bataan is consisting of 12 towns which is Abucay, Bagac, Balanga City, Dinalupihan, Hermosa, Limay, Mariveles, Morong, Orani, Orion, Pilar and Samal.

The province is divided into two by a pass that separates the northern mountains dominated by Mt. Natib at 1253 meters, and the southern Mariveles Mountains at 1388 meter its highest, which include Mt. Samat. The eastern side has a narrow coastal plain while the western side is precipitous, with ridges descending from the mountains to form cliffs and headlands near the coast.

Bataan was among the first provinces to rise in revolt against Spanish tyranny. Two of her sons, Pablo Tecson and Tomas del Rosario, figured prominently in the Malolos Convention in 1898, and were instrumental in ensuring that the Filipinos enjoyed religious freedom. Cayetano Arellano of Orion became the Secretary of Foreign Affairs of the Revolutionary Government, and later on became the first Chief Justice of the Supreme Court.

Historical Landmarks
A shrine at Camaya Point shows a bayonet thrust to the ground with a helmet slung over the rifle butt.At the start of the March in Bagac is the Zero Point Marker, and a similar Death March marker is in Mariveles. The Battle of Tuol Pocket Marker is on the site of a battle which served as a prelude to the final defense of Bataan.The Surrender Site Marker is inside the compounded of the Balanga Elementary School. The Democracy Marker at the province boundary with Pampanga depicts the role of Bataan in the country fight for freedom. The Cayetano Arellano Marker in Orion town marks the birthplace of the first Filipino Chief Justice of the Supreme Court. Orion also has the Franciso Balagtas monument in honor of the great Filipino poet and patriot who lived here.


Places to Visit

Dambana ng Kagitingan (shrine of Valor) atop Mt. Samat (altitude 564 meters) in Pilar town Bataan was built in 1966 in memory of the soldiers of World War II.

Sto. Domingo Abucay Church: It portrays the architectural and cultural heritage of our ancestors in the Spanish period. The church is 414-years-old was built in 1587 and influence by Spanish style architecture. The church wasthe living witness to the massacre of native defenders from the Dutch invaders on June 16, 1647.

World War II Markers: These are the historical markers in which are very important to our history. Many Filipino and American soldiers died and sacrifice their lives defending these markers.

Philippine-Japanese Friendship Tower: Located in Bagac. The tower is the symbol of a reconciliation, peace and friendship between Philippines and Japan after the World War II.

Sibul Spring: A prime tourist attraction that is found in Abucay. It's boasting sulfuric swimming pools attracts tourist because of its magnificent beauty. The natural hot spring, which is the main attraction, is believed to be medicinal and can provide muscle pain relief.

Dinalupihan Natural Parks: An untouched natural virgin forest which is best for picnics and camping. Located in Dinalupihan, the surrounding area is great for day hikes and trekking.

Mt. Natib: If you want to have a perfect view of the sorroundigs on top of the mountain, trek and climb the 1253 meters Mt. Natib mountain. I

Balon Anito: Also called "dead volcano". The hot spring at the mounth of the volcano is believe to be therapeutic by the elderly that they frequently go there to soak their feet.

How to get Here

There is two Major Bus company Travel in Bataan , The Bataan Transit and Genesis Bus line. Both Bus company have terminal in Avinida and Pasay city Manila and they leave the terminal Every 30 minutes. Travel time is more or less Three to Four hours , Bus Fare 200 peso from Manila Terminal to Balanga Terminal. And from Olongapo Zambales is more or less One Hour by Victory liner and open air Bus and some Public Transfortation..
